Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
